Hi Marie, yes i believe in

Hi Marie, yes i believe in fairys, have done for years now, i have to be truthful and admit i have never seen one, but last year i had a breakdown, so many difficult things going on in my life at the same time and i just couldnt cope with life.

Anyway my husband who was and still is, proved to be a tower of strength created a little fairy area at the bottom of our garden, a little pond for frogs etc, some ornaments and pretty flowers, so very peaceful considering we live on an estate, dont get me wrong, its a nice place to live around here but it can seem a bit noisy when you are stressed and uptight about everything and anything!

So, each day i would spend time just sitting and chatting to nature's earth angels as i often call them, and asking them to help me get through this difficult time, the inner peace and calm i found was such a relief it was amazing.

I still go and chat to them even now im much better, and thank them for their help, also when im pegging out the washing i chat away, the neighbours probably think im barking Lol, but i really dont care, I know what i've experienced and thats whats important.

fairy doors!

merry meet!

what a lovely idea! we think its wonderful that you talk to the fae folk in your garden. those little creatures have such gentle calming energies, we arent surprised that it helped you to feel better!

do you have fairy doors in your garden?

our coven makes fairy doors by carving them from wood and decorating them with lovely flowers and butterflies!

we keep them next to the skirting boards in our house and in the garden to act as a magickal portal between us and the fairy realm!

fairy blessings to you from holly and hazel!

Just Fairy ornaments, they

Just Fairy ornaments, they can be picked up quite cheaply, there is some very expensive ones around but not really suitable for this weather of ours, lol

I also have put a few Gnome's in there too, the pond took a fair bit of digging out for him, he puffed and panted quite a lot bless him, and its only a small one, but its amazing how many frogs and toads in there now. xx

Well in all honesty, I have

Well in all honesty, I have never seen a fairy and I dont have any real reason to believe that their real, but I like to believe in them. And I think I always will unless someday theres like pure solid truth that they dont exist lol. But until then i'd like to believe their real :)

Hi Marie, with regards to

Hi Marie, with regards to the existence of fairies.  In Ireland there has always been a strong belief in fairies (although I wouldn't venture that every Irish person believes in them!).  Most people have heard of leprechauns and banshees, although not everyone will be aware of the Irish belief in the Sidhe (pronounced shee, a collective name given to the fairy folk in Ireland - banshee comes from the gaelic bean sidhe, meaning woman of the sidhe).  For centuries now the Irish, and celts for that matter, have believed that the sidhe were an elite group of beings, once believed to have been gods and goddesses by the ancient celts but denegrated to fairydom by the influence of christianity, that lived on a different plain of existence in our world and were protected by a veil of invisibility, which according to many of the old Irish legends often took the form of an amulet worn around the neck.  However, they could cross the barrier between the two plains of existence any time they chose and could take many different forms -  animals for example or the more sterotypical form of a small being with wings or a leprechaun for example. (It should be noted that in ireland and other countries there would appear to be many different species of fairy). However, the legends and folkstories generally have them take human form and mingle among human kind, often befriending them or becoming lovers and even spouses!  They are said to be incredibly attractive and talented and sometimes even chose to take mortals back to their realm with them where they live happy and peaceful lives immortally amongst beauty and harmony.  You should not though, under any circumstances cross them or insult them, as they can bring misfortune and unhappiness to the perpetrator.  They should always be received hospitably and shown respect (just as you would treat anyone, bearing in mind that we are not always aware of who they are) and they will very often be generous in return.  They are also said to steal babies ( leaving a sickly baby of their own in its place, or a changeling)  and some stories tell of them stealing newly married brides with whom they have fallen in love or lust!  There are a strict code of rules to be followed if you want to reclaim the stolen person back.  So perhaps fairies walk amongst us in our every day lives without our knowledge - all the more reason to be nice to everyone we meet!

Fairies

Hi all, When i was little i used to believe without doubt that Fairies existed. At around 5 years old i once scared my Dad by running up the garden in huge distress screaming at him to stop as he chopped down a large bush at the end of the garden. The poor man believed he had accidently hurt an animal or something he hadnt noticed, but when i arrived all wide eyed and horrified i informed him that he could not chop down that bush as the fairy folk lived there! To give him his due he did think quickly on his feet and told me that he had asked them to move out, to which i replied "oh thats ok then" and went back playing with my teddies.

I had numerous ghostly experiences in that house as a child, including one where i accidently left my favourite teddy outside in a rainstorm but found him bone dry all over even though everything around him and the ground under him was wet, fairy folk? or the ghost i believe lived in the attic? As i grew older i began to think that perhaps fairies did not exist after all, and now i am in my 30's i am becoming interested again. I find all your posts very interesting, I would like to hear how many people have seen the fairies? and what do they look like?

p.s Hi Holly and Hazel! I love your fairy doors, i bought one last Christmas for a family friend they are enchanting. I am now considering having a fairy door in my garden.

Fairys

Just nice to know that there are other people who are like me!  I also believe in fairys (my husband thinks I'm as daft as a brush) and when we moved to this house six years ago I also made a fairy garden - although it has somewhat overgrown now and a tree has fallen infront of it - and every year around this time or maybe a little later we get rings of toadstools which I tell everyone are fairy rings. One of my neighbours believes in them also and she told me that she heard that they guarded the souls of animals but we don't know if this is true or not.  Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?  Your comment has reminded me that maybe I should tidy up their little garden a bit.

Faeries--got any pictures?

It's brilliant to read that so many of you are into faeries.  You might be interested to look out for a feature on Autumn faeries that's coming up in the September issue (on sale Aug 6).  If anyone wants to send me a photo of their faery garden please do and I'll post them on the website or possibly the letters page in the mag where you can win £25.

All the best and keep posting, lots of love, Sue, Editor F&F

fairies

Have read this topic with great interest.  I am a fairy believer and when we moved into this house 6 years ago I decided to make a fairy garden.  I have to admit over the years I have neglected it.  I have also heard about fairy rings - has anyone else got any thoughts on this strange phenonomen?  I ask this because since I have made the fairy garden at a certain time of the year, i.e. now, my garden has lots of rings scattered around it some with mushrooms growing on the ring and some without.  My husband, who's not a believer says there has to be a scientific reason for it, but can't give me a reason! Some morning i will get up and they will all be gone, just overnight.  I showed my neighbour them and she's absolutely amazed.  None of our other neighbours have got them. I would be thrilled if someone can give me any info on them.

I was on holiday in Wales and outside the hotel dining room on the lawn there was a perfect mushroom ring in the grass!

Never saw any wee folk, sadly!

Hi Marie I think I'm just about there with a belief in fairies. I have some small statues in my garden and some wind chimes. I've not seen one physically, but oddly have seen a photograph in which they appeared. I belong to a small meditation group and the lady who runs it was showing us a photo of her new garden layout. "I love the fairies" we all chorused. "What fairies?" she asked. "The statues in your garden" we replied. "But I haven't got any fairy statues in my garden." She looked at the photo again, and there they were about 6 or so of them. "OOer!" she said "I've not noticed those before." Later on we looked again and they'd gone. Fairies, or had we just made up fairy shapes from different shapes and colours of foliage? I don't know.
