Is it normal to fall asleep while meditating? I have been meditating on and off for the last few years and each time I've fallen asleep or at least it feels as though I've been asleep.

Hi there I must say that at

Hi there I must say that at times when I have done meditation I have also fallen asleep. Don't know why it happens, maybe tired beforehand, or meditating relaxed you so much you doze of or maybe while you doze of you are receiving healing, that used to happen sometimes to people that was giving healing to & always found that as they were in such a relaxed state, the healing would have worked better for them.

Remember once sitting in closed circle one of the ladies fell asleep & started to snore you could imagine her surprise when she came to & we were all looking at her trying to keep a straight face, was funny !!

I sometimes fall asleep during meditation, as do some of the others in our group.  In the group I belonged to years ago we had to hold a crystal during meditation, one man always fell asleep very soon after we'd started the class and the first thing you'd hear was a snore starting up followed by a thud as his hands relaxed and his crystal hit the floor, then there was a snorting/spluttering noise as the thud woke him up, plus a creaking chair as he reached down, picked up the crystal then settled himself down again to continue the class.  He might do the same again a while later, but quite often would manage to finish the class without further incident.  Just as well because the rest of us were really struggling not to laugh, and as new meditators would often be sat with hands clamped over our mouths and shoulders shaking.

I've also come across people having a fit of the giggles or bursting into tears during a meditation as well.  The person who ran the group said it quite often happens and is caused by a release of tension and stress.

Don't worry about it, you must be relaxed to be able to sleep, so it must be doing some good.

Meditation

Hi Eragon

Another funny incidnet from meditation class.  I wasn't at this one but heard about it and was in hysterics.  The class I used to go to (the one with the snoring man) was held in a room rented from the Spiritualist Church next door.  The man and lady who ran the group belonged to the Church, the rest of us in the group didn't.  The man was a medium his assistant just a church member.  Anyhow, one day, because there were only a few Spiritualists at the church that night, they decided to use our room instead.   Nothing funny in that?  Well the man who ran the class kept a packet of coffee and a packet of milk powder in the kitchen for the meditation class and had noticed that if the Spiritualists used that room they would often use the meditation class's milk and coffee, so he'd hidden both packets in the top of the piano that stood at the end of the room.  All went well until one of the men at the service decided it would be a good idea to sing a few hymns which he would play on the piano.  After a few bars with several dead notes, he said to the man who ran the class (I'll call him Fred, not his real name) "This piano doesn't sound right."  Fred replied that it needed tuning, he thought.  A few more bars of the hymn and a few dull thuds from the piano and wisps of white powder began exiting from the lid.  "I think it needs a darn good clean as well" replied the gent at the piano.  Fred joined his assistant at the back of the group where she and then he were stood with shoulders shaking,  their hymn books clamped tightly over their mouths.  It made me laugh hearing about it, so it must have been hysterical to have been there, but maybe I've just got a warped sense of humour.
