I know that this is something that a lot of people are scared of but my 9 yr old son really is scared of the dark & of going to sleep. It has been with him since the first day he was born. He was happy in his cot asleep about 13 hrs old when I turned the light out to go to sleep. He screamed till I turned it back on, then settled. When I turned it off he screamed, you get the idea. so we slept with it on. That is how it has been ever since, he has always had a night light on. I can remember driving home one night in a storm with no lights anywhere as we were on back roads & he screamed for nearly 2hrs constant. I would be interested in anyones thoughts or ideas as to why he seems so scared of the dark, especially from a day old, & whether this is the reason that he is such a bad sleeper. Thank you x

Scared of the dark

I think the dark is scarey to little children(and sometimes big ones like me!)I have always been scared of the dark and it's hard to know why.  I think it might be fear of the unknown especially whenyou wake up and don't know where you are.  A child may not know what is happening, especially a very young one as it may make them feel vulnerable and isolated.  Try a night light, this may help.

Hi Angel, We have pretty

Hi Angel,

We have pretty fairy lights in his room. I too do not like the dark but I was most surpised that a baby of a few hours old did not like the dark, especially as he had just come from the dark!! His is a real strong fear of the dark. whether it be the night or going throug a tunnel. He also has a fear of going to sleep. I just wondered if this could be some sort of throw back to a past life & he is thinking that the dark / sleep = something bad????

Or am I just reading too much into this.

My daughter ( 5yrs his junior ) has no such fears & is more then happy to wander around in the dark!

I'm sure he'll get over this in time, don't worry.  It may be a past life, but I think it's more likely to be a fear of being alone in the dark (I don't like that much either)

i read somewhere that children are the most sensitive to the supernatural. maybe your baby is snstive, but it may also be that you child has caught the attension of a spirt. im sure your baby wil come to no harm, but why not try going to a medium circle and asking for advice there? it could help
